Beard care in Abu Dhabi's climate.
A beard in Abu Dhabi has a harder job than a beard in Madrid. Our climate cycles through three things at once — outside heat, dehumidified AC indoors, and fine desert dust — all of which strip oils, irritate skin underneath, and leave the beard looking rougher than its owner. Here is what our master barbers actually recommend, simplified.
1. Wash less often than you think
Hot climates make us want to over-cleanse. Resist. Daily harsh shampoo strips the natural sebum your beard needs to stay soft. Use a beard-specific cleanser two or three times a week. On other days, rinse with cool water only.
2. Oil is non-negotiable
A few drops of beard oil — argan, jojoba, or a barber-blended formula — applied to slightly damp beard, every morning. Work it down to the skin with your fingertips, then comb through. This addresses the "rough texture" most clients complain about.
3. The skin under the beard matters more than the hair
Itching, redness, flaking — usually skin, not beard. A weekly exfoliating wash and a light moisturiser underneath solves 80% of the issues we see. Anti-dandruff shampoo on the beard, used once weekly, helps men prone to flaking.
4. Trim every 3–4 weeks, even if it doesn't feel long
Beards in dry climates split at the ends faster. A simple maintenance trim keeps the shape. We do this in 15 minutes — a beard sculpt is 60 AED at most Kanaan houses.
5. After-shave needs to be hydrating, not astringent
The classic alcohol-based after-shave is exactly wrong for our climate. Choose a balm, not a splash. Look for hyaluronic acid or panthenol on the label.
6. Hot-towel shaves are not just nostalgia
Heat softens hair and skin, which means the razor goes through less work. Less work means less irritation. This is why a proper hot-towel shave at Kanaan leaves the skin smoother for longer than a rushed shave at home.
